Oradour-sur-Glane is a village in Haute-Vienne in Nazi-occupied France that was destroyed on June 10, 1944 when 643 civilians, including non-combatant men, women, and children, were massacred by a German Waffen-SS company as collective punishment for Resistance activity in the area1234. The village and the ruins have been preserved as a memorial to the dead and a reminder of the atrocities of war.. A new village was built nearby after the war.
